JS III SECOND TERM WEEK

Note: This scheme contains performance objective, content, teacher and students activities as well as teaching resources.

Week 1: Group/combined events I
Objective: Students should be able to:
(1) mention and explain the two
group of combined events
(2) list the various events under each
groups.

Content:
(1) Classification as:
a. pentathlon
b. decathlon
– Officiating NB.
Exposure to practice of
various events should be emphasized
(2) List of various events under
a. Decathlon
b. Pentathlon
Teacher: (1) Defines a. pentathlon b. decathlon. (2) Demonstrates the various events under each.
Students: (1) Define pentathlon and
decathlon. (2) Practice the events
Resources: Charts, pictures, crossbar, the uprights, landing foam, the pole, video clips, video pole, measuring tapes, flags, pegs, javelin, the track, the jumpingnpits, the throwing pits, stop watches, measuring tapes.

Week 2. Group/combine d events II
Objective: Students should be
able to:
(1) state how combined events are competed for;
(2) mention safety rules

Content:
(1) The duration of the competition of decathlon and pentathlon
a. Scoring the event
(2) Facilities and equipment
a. rules and regulations
(3) safety rules
Teacher: (1) Explains how the events are competed for and the duration for
the competition.
(2) Explains scoring in combined events. (3) Explains safety rules
Students: (1) Listen to teacher’s explanation and teaching. (2) List safety rules

Week 5: Personal, school and community health III
Objective: Students should be able to:
(1) list three methods of refuse disposal;
(2) list sources of water supply.

Content:
(1) Methods of refuse disposal
(2) Source of water supply
Teacher: (1) State the qualities of safe water. (2) Illustrates with posters and explain different sources of water supply. (3) Explains and demonstrates the qualities of safe water.
Students: Listen attentively to teacher’s explanations
Resources: Photographs, Posters/chart, Communication materials, Textbooks, Waste paper, Baskets/refuse Bins, broom and rakes

Week 6: Personal, school and community health IV
Career guidance: name agencies
promoting sports in Nigeria explain career opportunities in physical education.

Content
(1) Career guidance
(2) Sport promotion agencies and bodies in Nigeria:
a. Sport Associations
b. NAPHER.SD
c. Nigeria institute of sport
Teacher: (1) Guides students to list
career guidance. (2) Previews activities of sports and health promotion agencies

Week 7: Family Health I
Students should be able to:
(1) identify types of diseases and modes of transfer;

(2) identify disease vectors such as mosquitoes and houseflies.

Content:
(1) Types of diseases and modes of transfer.

(2) Disease vectors

Teacher: (1) Brings posters/pictures of diseased persons to the class. (2) Discusses Vectors.
Students: Participate in class

Week 8: Family Health II
Objective: Students should be able to:
define HIV/AIDS and STIs.

Content:

Teacher: Guides the class discussion on:
HIV/AIDS and STIs
Students: Listen to teacher explanations.
Resources: Posters, Pictures, Films strips, video Clips, and charts,
Insecticides, Oil/kerosene, Samples of treated and untreated water.

Week 9: Family Health III
Objective: Students should be able to:
(1) list examples of STIs
(2) explain the consequences of
contacting infections and diseases.

Content:
(1) Examples of STIs,
(2) Consequences of contacting diseases on individual, family society.
Teacher: (1) Guides class discussion
(2) Mode of contacting infection
Students: Ask and answer question.
Posters Pictures, Films strips, video, Clips, and charts, Insecticides, Oil/kerosene Samples of treated, and untreated water.

Week 10: Family Health IV
Objective: Students should be able to:
(1) list ways of preventing infections and diseases.
(2) draw the life cycle of mosquito and other vectors.
(3) state control measures.

Content:
(1) Disease prevention sanitation
– education-immunization- choice of life partner.
(2) Life cycle of the mosquito and other vectors.
(3) Control measures water
drainage, insecticides, oil spreading/spraying.
Teacher: (1) Discuss the prevention method. (2) Invites guest speakers to talk to learners about control measures.
Students: Copy the chalkboard
summary.
Resources: Same as in week 9 above.
